An integrated dashboard can bring events together without making every connected system interchangeable. The design question is not simply whether two products communicate. It is whether the right action occurs, under the right conditions, with a clear owner and a safe failure behavior.

Write the matrix before writing rules

Give each integration an event, source, destination, action, exception, and acceptance test. Include the normal operating state and the state during a communications failure. Keep operator notification distinct from automatic control.

These are workflow examples, not a fire alarm or door-release design. Required emergency functions need approved equipment, interfaces, and sequences established by the responsible professionals and authority having jurisdiction.

Do not let the dashboard become an unintended dependency

Ask what happens if the VMS server stops, the integration service loses its credentials, or the network link fails. A monitoring screen may be allowed to lose a convenience feature; that does not make it an acceptable sole control path for a required protective function.

Verify product-level integration

Test recovery as well as activation

During an authorized commissioning window, demonstrate the event, acknowledgement, reset, and recovery process. Coordinate any testing that could affect occupants or emergency systems with the responsible parties. Record who restored normal operation and checked the final state.

Deliver the matrix, approved test records, software versions, and change procedure. Future updates should trigger a review of the affected rows. An integration is maintainable when the next technician can explain its behavior without guessing what an undocumented rule was intended to do.
