question Solved

What should receiving inspect before signing for a freight delivery?

Freight damage is easier to resolve when it is documented at delivery. A clean delivery receipt can make a later concealed-damage claim harder. What should warehouse staff check while the carrier is still there?

Check pallet count, carton count when practical, crushed corners, punctures, wet packaging, broken stretch wrap and obvious shifting. Photograph damage and note exceptions on the delivery receipt before signing. Keep the packaging if a claim may be filed.
For project equipment, also verify the shipment identity before it disappears into storage. A pallet arriving intact does not help if it belongs to the wrong phase or location and nobody records where it went.
