Spec SheetThe Square D Type S thermal overload relay A1.54 is engineered to safeguard motors, controllers, and branch circuit conductors from excessive heating caused by prolonged overcurrent conditions. It responds to overload currents based on trip curves, ensuring protection within 20 seconds or less during overload scenarios.
Selection of the appropriate thermal unit is based on the motor's full load current and a dedicated selection table. These units feature a one-piece construction, where the motor current passes through a small heater winding. Under overload conditions, heat melts a special solder, allowing a ratchet wheel to spin free and open the control circuit contacts, thereby disconnecting the motor.
