Hik-Connect can provide remote access to supported Hikvision cameras and recorders, including live viewing and available event notifications. Connecting a device to this service is not the same as purchasing cloud recording or uploading its entire archive. Decide where recordings will be stored as a separate part of the installation.

The following sequence covers preparation, local networking, activation, account setup, and testing. Available options depend on the model, firmware, region, and app version.

What to have ready

  • A supported camera or recorder, powered according to its specifications.
  • A working network and internet connection for the device.
  • A phone or tablet with the supported Hik-Connect application.
  • The device's serial number or appropriate QR code.
  • The device administrator credentials and its verification code, where required.
  • Access to the owner's Hik-Connect account or the information needed to create it.

A verification code may be printed on a label or configured in platform-access settings. It is not universally six uppercase letters. Follow the actual device's rules and do not use a predictable sample code from a tutorial. Keep verification codes and passwords separate from publicly shared installation photographs.

Connect the device to the local network

For a wired camera, connect Ethernet to the intended switch, router LAN, or compatible recorder PoE port. Supply power separately when required. For a Wi-Fi model, follow its supported wireless setup procedure; a camera without a Wi-Fi radio cannot gain that capability merely by being added to the phone app.

Check the relevant power and network indicators, but do not expect every indicator on every model to remain illuminated. Confirm a working local connection through discovery or the device interface.

Activate and configure the camera with SADP

Where supported, install Hikvision's SADP utility from the official source and run it on the appropriate local network. Identify the camera by serial number before selecting it. Network isolation, a different recorder PoE subnet, or local firewall settings can affect discovery.

If the camera is inactive, create a strong administrator password that meets the displayed requirements. Then configure its address. DHCP obtains settings from a DHCP server; DNS resolves names and does not assign the IP address. Alternatively, enter an unused static address, subnet mask, gateway, and appropriate DNS settings.

A camera may work locally while failing to reach the internet because its gateway or DNS settings are wrong. Verify these before proceeding. Set the device clock and time zone correctly so recorded events can be located later.

Enable platform access

In the supported camera or recorder interface, find the Hik-Connect platform-access setting, enable it, and complete any verification-code prompt. Save the change and confirm the status becomes Online. Use the server configuration documented for your device and region.

If the status remains offline, check network reachability and the platform settings. Scanning the label repeatedly will not repair a device that cannot connect to the service.

Create or sign in to the account

Obtain the mobile app through the manufacturer's official guidance for your platform. Choose the correct region and register through an offered email or phone workflow if you do not already have an account. Complete account verification and use a strong account password.

The mobile account, device administrator account, and device verification code are different items. Record their purpose so they are not confused during future setup or recovery.

Add the camera or recorder

  1. Sign in and choose Add Device.
  2. Scan the device's supported QR code or enter its serial number manually.
  3. Check that the result identifies the intended unit.
  4. Complete activation or verification prompts when the model and workflow require them.
  5. Wait for confirmation and open a live view.

The QR code helps identify or enroll the device; scanning it does not, by itself, establish every aspect of stream encryption. Follow the applicable verification and encryption settings. The manufacturer's device-adding guide also explains what to do when a device is offline, inactive, or already associated with another account.

Verify more than the live image

Test remote viewing from a connection outside the camera's LAN. If playback is required, confirm that the camera memory card, recorder, or supported recording service actually contains footage and that the account has permission to retrieve it.

Configure event detection and app notifications separately, then create a test event. Check which image, motion, or other settings the app exposes for that model; some adjustments still require the local interface or another supported client.

Compare security cameras and recording systems with the intended storage and remote-access functions in mind. Complete setup only after live view, playback, and any required alerts have each been tested.
