Spec SheetThe SQUARE D Type S CC thermal overload unit is designed to safeguard motors, controllers, and branch circuit conductors from excessive heating caused by prolonged overcurrents. It responds to overload conditions based on trip curves and will trip in 20 seconds or less under overload scenarios.
Proper thermal unit selection is based on the motor's full load current and a designated selection table. These units have a one-piece construction, where the motor current passes through a small heater winding. During overload conditions, heat melts a special solder, allowing a ratchet wheel to spin free, which opens the control circuit contacts and disconnects the motor contacts.
