It operates based on trip curves specific to Class 20 thermal units, which trip in 20 seconds or less during overload conditions.
Constructed as a single-piece device, this thermal unit allows motor current to pass through a small heater winding. When overloads occur, the heat melts a special solder, enabling a ratchet wheel to spin free and open the control circuit contacts, thereby disconnecting the motor.
