Spec SheetThe Square D Type S thermal overload relay is designed to safeguard motors, controllers, and branch circuit conductors from excessive heating caused by prolonged overcurrent conditions, including locked rotor currents. It operates based on trip curves, responding within 20 seconds during overloads.
Proper thermal unit selection is achieved using the motor's full load current and a dedicated selection table. These units feature a one-piece construction where the motor current passes through a small heater winding. Under overload conditions, heat melts a special solder, allowing a ratchet wheel to spin free and open control circuit contacts, thereby disconnecting the motor.
