Spec SheetThe Square D Type S, Type A thermal overload unit is engineered to safeguard motors, controllers, and branch circuit conductors from excessive heating caused by prolonged over currents. It operates by passing the motor current through a small heater winding within the unit. Under overload conditions, heat melts a special solder, allowing a ratchet wheel to spin free, which opens the control circuit contacts and disconnects the motor.
This thermal unit responds to overload current conditions based on trip curves and will trip in 20 seconds or less under overload scenarios. Proper selection is made using the motor's full load current and a dedicated selection table. The unit features a one-piece construction for durability and reliability.
